lagos to face the worst blackout ever recorded in Nigeria

The commercial city of Lagos will suffer longer hours of darkness as a result of reduced electricity supply from discos which is already crippling businesses.
This is as a result of vandalism of electricity facilities in the past two months, valued at about $200 million according to the management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKO Disco).
It was leant that a group of disgruntled young men have embarked on destruction of transformers and other equipment in different parts the state.
Lamenting the development, an official of the company, Godwin Idemudia, said the incidence was incapacitating the company from discharging its services to consumers.

He said some of the cables damaged by the boys would cost about $200 million to replace.
The most affected areas include Yaba, Ikeja and Lagos Island.
This is in addition to the fact that Egbin Power Station, the major power supply outfit to the state has been operating under 45 per cent capacity.
“There are cases of other Discos which had complained of how unsettled outstanding bills of government agencies and establishments have been hampering our operations”, he said.
But the federal government has said the proposed $30 billion facility before the National Assembly will be extended to the various operators of electricity services in Nigeria.
